Facilitating Wellness and Healing for Black & Melanated Women ft. Aseanté Renee | Ep. 37 | The Prolific Hub Podcast

A Black woman with short hair sits hugging with face pressed against her knees

In this episode of The Prolific Hub Podcast, I had the honor of speaking with my friend and mentor, Aseanté Renee, a licensed therapist and executive & performance coach, who has dedicated her career to supporting the wellness and healing of Black women in executive roles and beyond. Our conversation is a deep dive into Aseanté's transformative journey and powerful mission. As the Founder/Chief Wellness Officer of The Axon Group, and Founder of Susu House, Aseanté's work centers helping Black women to release the burdensome superwoman persona, recover from perfectionism and embrace a life of balance and authenticity.

Our conversation kicks off with Aseanté sharing her vision of creating lives that Black women don't feel the need to escape from. Her "Retiring Superwoman" campaign encourages Black and melanated women to relinquish the superwoman persona that often leads to burnout and overwhelming responsibilities. By focusing on balance, healing, and authenticity, Aseanté aims to help women create lives they can genuinely enjoy.

One of the highlights of our conversation, is that of Susu House, a sanctuary designed to make healing accessible and equitable for Black and melanated communities. Aseanté elaborates on how Susu House removes financial barriers by offering free community healing events using diverse modalities like somatic therapies, energy work and more. She stresses the importance of financially supporting practitioners to foster an inclusive and sustainable healing environment. Susu House is a testament to Aseanté's belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to heal without financial constraints.

Aseanté also delves into the deeply personal journey of recovering from perfectionism. She reflects on how trauma and societal pressures shape perfectionist tendencies, especially among Black women. Her insights are not just theoretical; they are drawn from her own experiences and the experiences of those she coaches. Aseanté emphasizes the importance of self-compassion, setting boundaries, and finding joy in everyday moments. Her upcoming book aims to address these pervasive issues, offering practical solutions for those fighting their own battles with perfectionism.

This episode also leans into themes of finding and knowing your purpose, embracing the pivot, as well as the need for adaptability when it comes to entrepreneurship. Our conversation was profound, real and deeply affirming. I hope that you feel inspired to go with the flow, pursue all of your dreams, and focus on generational joy! (IYKYK!)
